Your application has been refused. You can appeal within three weeks – or apply again when you meet the requirements.
What the letter means
Migrationsverket has assessed that you do not meet one or more requirements – most commonly unproven identity, insufficient residence time, debts/remarks or shortcomings in support.
The reasoning is in the decision. Read it carefully – it states exactly what was lacking and is key to your next step.
What you need to do
- 1Read the reasoning and identify which requirement(s) were not considered met.
- 2If you wish to appeal: submit the appeal in writing within three weeks from when you received the decision. Instructions are in the decision.
- 3Consider legal help if the case is complicated.
- 4Alternatively: remedy the shortcoming (e.g. pay debts, wait for residence time) and apply again later.
Common questions
Does it cost anything to appeal?
No, it is free to appeal to the Migration Court. If you hire your own representative you pay for that yourself.
Can I apply again immediately?
Yes, there is no waiting period – but a new refusal is likely if nothing has changed. Address the cause of the refusal first.
Does the refusal affect my residence permit?
No, a refusal of a citizenship application does not affect your permanent residence permit.
