Brev från Migrationsverket – vad betyder de?

Have you received a letter in your citizenship case? Here we explain what the most common letters mean and what you need to do.

• Request for additional documentsMigrationsverket needs more information or documents to decide your case. No decision has been made yet.
• Summons to MigrationsverketYou are summoned to a personal visit – often for identity verification, passport inspection or an investigation interview.
• Passport inspectionYou must present your passport or other identity document in original so Migrationsverket can verify identity and travels.
• Decision on citizenship (granted)Congratulations – you have been granted Swedish citizenship. The letter is your proof and applies from the date of the decision.
• Application refusedYour application has been refused. You can appeal within three weeks – or apply again when you meet the requirements.
• Request to decide the case (response)You have requested that Migrationsverket decide your case – or received a decision on such a request. This is how the process works.
• Identity check / identity investigationMigrationsverket considers that your identity is not sufficiently proven and wants more supporting documents.
• Further investigation neededMigrationsverket informs you that your case requires further investigation before a decision can be made. Action is not always required – but read the letter carefully.
