Migrationsverket informs you that your case requires further investigation before a decision can be made. Action is not always required – but read the letter carefully.
What the letter means
The letter means the case officer needs to investigate some part of your case more closely before a decision can be made. This may concern identity, residence time, support or information from other authorities.
Sometimes the letter requires no response from you at all – it is then information that processing will take longer. Other times you are asked to provide information or attend a meeting.
What you need to do
- 1Read the letter carefully – does it say you should do something, or is it information only?
- 2If information is requested: submit it within the stated time, marked with your case number.
- 3If you are summoned to a meeting: confirm the time and bring what is stated in the letter.
- 4If nothing is requested: wait, but check that your contact details are up to date.
- 5Consider whether you have documents that can clarify open questions – you can always submit additional material.
Common questions
Does the letter mean something is wrong with my application?
Not necessarily. It means the case officer needs more material to make a correct decision. It is common in cases where identity or residence time needs clarification.
How long does the extra investigation take?
It varies from weeks to several months depending on what is investigated. After six months total processing time you can request that the case be decided.
Can I speed up the investigation?
You can voluntarily submit documents that address what is being investigated – clearly marked with your case number. That can shorten the time.
