MMigrationsguidenClarity and structure for your application

Can I travel abroad while my application is being processed?

Yes, you may travel during processing. Bear in mind that you need valid travel documents and that longer stays abroad can affect the assessment of your residence in Sweden.

What should I consider?

You must be able to re-enter Sweden – check that your passport and residence permit card are valid. If you have submitted your passport to Migrationsverket you need to request it back before travelling.

Does travel affect my case?

Shorter trips normally do not affect the case. If you move abroad or stay there for a long time your residence in Sweden may however be questioned, which can lead to refusal. Migrationsverket may also summon you for identity verification – then you need to be able to come to Sweden.

Always check current rules with Migrationsverket as rules may change.
