MMigrationsguidenClarity and structure for your application

Can my child get Swedish citizenship?

Yes. Children can become Swedish citizens automatically at birth if a parent is a Swedish citizen, through notification, or as a co-applicant in a parent's citizenship application.

Children in your application

If you apply for citizenship your unmarried children under 18 living with you in Sweden can normally be included in your application and become citizens at the same time as you. State the children in the application and attach population registration certificates.

Notification for children

For certain children there is a simpler notification procedure with lower requirements, including for children who have lived in Sweden for a long time. Notification is made by guardians, and children who have turned 12 must consent themselves.

Automatic citizenship

Children born with at least one Swedish parent automatically become Swedish citizens at birth, regardless of where the child is born.
